Free Internet Marketing
This article is designed to explore the options available for free marketing for businesses using the Internet.
If you have any ideas that I have not included here please contact me.
Advertising can be divided into two types, main stream and alternative. These free Internet advertising
advertising methods fall in to the alternative bracket. This means that you will probably want to do this in
addition to your existing advertising you are doing, or if you are not advertising at all at the moment, then it's
a good place to start!
When I talk about free advertising I am talking about advertising that will cost no money. These advertising
methods will cost in terms of time and creativity. Also, it is highly recommended that you have a website. This
will give your prospective clients a place to find out more information about your business and service. Remember
that Internet advertising is 24hrs and the office may not be open at the time. A website could cost as little as £8
and a £5 annual fee.
Your Website
Having a website is a good start your free advertising. Most companies already have a web site. If you do not
have one, there are places where you can get web space for free, usually paid for by having advertising displayed
by the Internet provider. Web sites without advertising will require you to have a domain name. The best that I
have found so far is the hosting from "Free Virtual Servers". I
have help several clients set up low cost websites and they all have been very happy service provided.
What to put on your web site
Once you have a website your will clients will need to be able to find it. The best way is by registering the
website with the better search engines, Google, Yahoo, & Microsoft. Search engines work by 'crawling' through
the web site and reading any written text found there, and then use that text to calculate the relevancy to clients
searches. The art of making your website attractive to search engines is called "Search Engine Optimization" and is
considered a 'black art' as the search engines keep changing the rules. Be aware that the text on the web page is
not the only information that the search engines use to calculate relevancy, but is is a good place to start.
Your Details
A good place to start is to put your contact details, the services and products that you provide and prices.
When you are describing the product and services take your time and add plenty of details. Customer comments won't
heart either.
When you are adding your contact details add them to the front page and have a dedicated contact page too. This
will help both the customers and search engines
Link Building
After building your web site and adding your site to the search engines, the next focus should be to get links
from other web sites to yours. The best way of doing this is to swap links with your suppliers and customers,
friends.
